The truth behind our multi-billion dollar sex industries; the real women of prostitution and porn

Porn and sex degrades, harms, and dehumanises, which speaks for the majority of this multi-billion dollar industry (that surpasses all other entertainment industries money making abilities put together), and is causing great pain to many women.  A lot of these women didn’t choose this industry, they were in one way or another forced into it through circumstance and they are suffering at the hands of a dominance of sexual perversion.

This is not about sex or anyone’s right as sexual beings to enjoy and revel in it. This is about forgotten women and girls being used and abused as pawns in a highly lucrative industry for the sake of perversion and sexual gratification of the men that like this indulgence. For men who have the money to buy and sell what they want, including women’s bodies, hearts, souls and sanity.

Who cares? As a victim of sexual assault, as a woman, as a mother, as a lover, and as a human being, I care.

Silence equals acceptance–I will not be silent anymore.

“You cannot legislate away the dehumanising, degrading trauma of prostitution, and if you try to, you are accepting a separate class of women should exist who have no access to the human rights everyone else takes for granted.”

  1. Hello, thank you for this post. Just to add to the discussion – the sex industry is very much a part of human trafficking and exploitation. According UNODC’s factsheet on human trafficking, Europe alone makes an of estimated 2.5 billion € per year through sexual exploitation and forced labor calling it “one of the most lucrative illicit businesses in Europe”. Children too are apart of this…. According to IOM, an estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year and the leading type of trafficking is sexual exploitation – (this leading type of course includes adults too).

      1. exactly…. I hope that people start to see it for what it is – slavery. We have to ask ourselves how can we keep allowing the hegemonic, brutal industry that feeds off of inequalities? Clearly those in power of this are taking advantage of the vulnerable…
As you said your post it is dehumanizing so thank you for playing a role in trying to humanize the victims of this sadistic industry.
