Pornography, Sex Ads and Facebook – petition

Facebook is billed as a family friendly social media platform, yet a few key words entered into their search engine will show you it has become a breeding ground for easy to access pornography, nudity, child pornography, illicit underage content and derogatory language about women and girls.

“But I’m not entering these key words” you might say. Well you don’t need to. Facebook is also sponsoring certain pages that will show up in the advert section of your home page, for instance, ‘The stepford wives escort agency’.

And perhaps as an adult you are not entering these key words, and perhaps ad’s selling women’s bodies for sex are only sponsored on over 18’s pages, but facebook allows children as young as 13 to sign up, while younger children can not only use fake ages to hold accounts also, Facebook is now considering lowering this age limit.

These pages clearly violate facebook’s own policies, namely;

Section 3.7 of Facebook’s policy says, “You will not post content that: is hate speech, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.”

Section 3.10 says, “You will not use Facebook to do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory.”

Today’s post is a call to action. A call to action for a just society for women, children and men.

Please sign and share this PETITION to get facebook to adhere to their own policies and keep facebook family friendly;

  1. Everyone has to and should sign this. We must stop the complete degradation of the female form. When people see women as mere objects, and companies such as Facebook are ok with that – it sends a message to all girls that this is the way women are suppose to be seen. WE CAN”T ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN!!!

  2. Reblogged this on opt4 and commented:
    Please take a moment and sign this. Sign it for the good of all people. Sign it for the good of women. Sign it for the good of humanity.

  3. Funny (or not) story about Facebook. One of my middle circle behaviors was to get on Facebook and search for users that posted pornographic photos and videos to their facebook profile. What I learned was that a lot of the posters were from countries in the Middle East where pornography is banned but facebook is not. They would use Facebook as a medium to share pornography with each other and a lot of their profiles were not private. I had to block facebook completely because I would get compulsive about finding these users and sending alerts to FB. I sent so many that I actually received correspondence from FB on wanting to talk to me about how to improve the alert system.

  4. I am one who does not support men working in women’s rights orgs, but I do support MALE orgs working for women’s rights. I am asking them to flood this petition website with their request that FB stop pornifying women, perpetuating rape culture and in fact, destroying jealthy male sexual development.

  5. Great initiative – thanks! I’ve signed it and will be passing it on to those I know to do likewise. A number of people I know have shut down their FB accounts over this but I think actually working to SOLVE the problem is more proactive than simply disengaging. Thanks again!
